Technology
a. The Korowai people still use the same technologies their ancestors did many centuries ago. The Korowai people tend to stay among themselves thus restricting the flow of technology into the tribe. As tourism has increased, however, many tribesmen have begun to change the culture to revolve around tourism thus introducing new technology.
i.
The Korowai primarily use stone based
objects such as stone axes, stone tipped arrows and so on.
ii.
Bones from animals have also been used
by the Korowai as tools such as bow and arrows.
iii.
Most of the Korowai live in tree houses
and thus they make them by hand. These tree houses are a popular attraction for
the tourists.

Reflection: Technology is unique to cultures throughout the world. While many modern people use electronic tools and machines, the Korowai people live with he same tools they have been using for hundreds of years. What this indicates to anthropologists is that the Korowai have lived in relative isolation up until recent contact. They rely on many older tools such as bows and arrows made of bone and axes made of stone. The fact that the Korowai have lived in relative isolation indicates to anthropologists that the Korowai people live very closely to the way their ancestors would have hundreds of years ago. We also see however globalization at work with the development of tourism in the Korowai. With such a large focus on their tree houses, the Korowai need to change many aspects of the culture to fit the needs of the tourist. The introduction of foreign tourist also leads to the trade of tools and cultural ideas (as see with Chagnon's visit to the Yanomamo people). It is possible with the introduction of tourism to the Korowai, the tools used may become more advanced so that they may better their tourism revenues.
